Does a CPAP machine protect your heart?

CPAP machines are often associated with better cardiovascular outcomes, but how strong is the evidence? I examined a major randomized trial, a manufacturer-funded meta-analysis, and a lifestyle study that produced a very different result. In the SAVE trial of more than 2,700 people with sleep apnea and heart disease, CPAP helped snoring, daytime sleepiness, mood and quality of life, but it didn't significantly cut heart attacks, strokes or cardiovascular deaths. In the INTERAPNEA trial, men who worked on nutrition, exercise, sleep habits, alcohol and tobacco saw their sleep apnea severity drop by about half in eight weeks. After six months, about 30% were in complete remission. One approach manages the problem while the machine is on. The other improves metabolic health so the problem can be reversed. Please don't stop a prescribed CPAP on your own. Talk with your doctor first. Let's get healthy together. Science, not medical advice. #Health #Nutrition #Science #SleepApnea #MetabolicHealth
