Kids with type 2 diabetes, 40 years ahead of schedule

The SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth study projected that 48,000 kids would have type 2 diabetes by 2060 if trends held steady. We hit that number in 2021. Nearly 40 years early. If the 2002 to 2017 trend keeps going, the bigger projection is 220,000 kids by 2060. At the pace we're on, we're probably ahead of that one too. In most cases, type 2 in kids grows out of the habits we model at home. Too much sugar, too much snacking, not enough moving. Habits can change, and our kids are watching what we do. Let's get healthy together. Science, not medical advice.
